A delay-efficient rerouting scheme for VoIP traffic

چکیده
Routing the packet flows through the network is a very important function and if done efficiently, it can contribute appreciably towards ensuring the desired levels of Voice over IP (VoIP) quality. Current implementations do no attempt to reconfigure the path of the flows in the case of loss of quality. We propose a dynamic rerouting scheme called the BPAR scheme for voice traffic, in which the paths of packet voice flows are dynamically reconfigured based on network probing and rerouting. We performed a series of emulations to evaluate the performance of the BPAR scheme. For GSM-compressed traffic, the dynamic reconfiguration proposed in this study shows an improvement of 12% reduction in average delay, and also a better connection acceptance (16% high) than other static methods under conditions of network congestion.

متن کاملQoS Guaranteed Voice Traffic Multiplexing Scheme over VoIP Network Using DiffServ
The current VoIP transfer methods using low bit rate codes such as G.723.1 and G.729 are still very inefficient due to its small payload size in comparison with its large overhead size. Besides, the traffic load on the access routers tends to geometrically increase when the incoming traffic flows of short packets increase. These factors cause problems such as delay, jitter, and packet loss, whi...
متن کاملQoS-aware MPDU Aggregation of IEEE 802.11n WLANs for VoIP Services
Currently, IEEE 802.11n higher throughput wireless LAN (WLAN) is widely deployed, and most mobile portable devices are expected to use WLANs for broadband mobile Internet services. IEEE 802.11n has been developed with MPDU aggregations to enhance overall throughput utilizing the increased physical layer transmission rate up to 600 Mbps. In currently available IEEE 802.11n WLAN implementations, ...
متن کاملApplication-aware scheduling for VoIP in Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are seen as a means to provide last mile connections in Next Generation Networks (NGNs). Because of their auto configuration capabilities and the low deployment cost WMNs are considered to be an efficient solution for the support of multiple voice, video and data services in NGNs. This paper looks at the optimal provision of resources in WMNs for Voice over IP (VoI...
متن کاملDual Threshold Scheduling for VoIP Traffic on Downlink of WiMAX Networks
Previous downlink scheduling algorithms of WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), like DRR (Deficit Round-Robin) and WRR (Weighted Round-Robin), usually reserve minimum rate to each type of traffic and cannot consider the status of queue length of each connection, thus making it unsuitable for VoIP on-off traffic model. One well-designed scheduling algorithm is expected to coo...
